I love tea. Doesn't everyone? There seems to be nothing better than snuggling up in a warm soft blanket on a rainy cold day, pillows all around, and a warm mug of tea. Doesn't that sound picturesque? Well, not only is tea comforting and delicious, but it also has many health benefits. What's that you say? A warm, comforting, delicious drink with health benefits, that's too good to be true! Well it's not. Here's a list of green, black, and white tea, their taste, and their benefits.

Green Tea
Taste: Green tea is most definitely not a sweet drink. It is a similar taste to pure black tea, but less bitter and with a sharp tang. Some find it off-putting at first, but it really is a tea that grows on you.
Health Benefits: Made with steamed tea leaves, it has a high concentration of EGCG and has been widely studied. Green tea’s antioxidants may interfere with the growth of bladder, breast, lung, stomach, pancreatic, and colorectal cancers; prevent clogging of the arteries, burn fat, counteract oxidative stress on the brain, reduce risk of neurological disorders like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases, reduce risk of stroke, and improve cholesterol levels.
Serve: Anyway you like! Some prefer it with ice and honey, some prefer it warm and pure. It's up to you.
Black tea
Taste: Most people have tasted Black Tea at some point in their life. You might have tried it in a hotel room one night, or at work. Black tea has quite a strong, bitter flavour on it's own.
Health Benefits: Made with fermented tea leaves, black tea has the highest caffeine content and forms the basis for flavored teas like chai, along with some instant teas. Studies have shown that black tea may protect lungs from damage caused by exposure to cigarette smoke. It also may reduce the risk of stroke.
Serve: Black Tea is most commonly served hot, sometimes with milk or sugar, or both.
White tea: Taste: vaguely naturally sweet, slightly malty (a very faint taste of something like white beer/witbier, or water after you've boiled some pasta in it!) if not over brewed, it can have a delicately perfume-y taste that's nice and light*
Serve: White tea is often served similar to green tea, hot or iced and sometimes with honey. It's all up to personal taste.

Me too, especially iced green tea!
DeleteI've only ever tried green tea and I put honey and cinnamon in it. Actually, I'm currently on a Teatox and it's fabulous!
ReplyDeleteOoh... A teatox? That's interesting! I'm going to investigate that further... I hop it means just drinking lots of tea because I'm in!
