The Black Apple
As I was searching Etsy, I stumbled across a picture that made the cover of Frankie magazine last year. Naturally I was curious to find out who had made these artworks. It turns out there is a wonderful series of artworks by The Black Apple, on postcards and posters. They are made by Emily Winfield Martin, an illustrator and author in Portland, United States. She writes books for young readers, such as Oddfellow's Orphanage, Dream Animals, and A Bedtime Journey.
I absolutely adore her children's books, they are so strange but creative at the same time. They remind me of films such as Coraline or Alice in Wonderland. One of my favorite of her prints is the picture in the middle left, of the young girl holding a tooth baby. It's adorable and odd, is that even a possible combo?
